A 55-unit subdivision of single-family detached houses will be built in Smyrna on 10.63 acres to be annexed from Cobb County on Jan. 1.

The annexation and rezoning from low-density to medium-density residential was approved 7-0 Monday by the Smyrna City Council.

Traton Homes will build these houses at costs of $400,000 and up, said attorney Kevin Moore, speaking on behalf of the builder.

These houses will be built on Belmont Avenue, Pierce Avenue, Reed Street and Davis Drive.

Of the 10.63 acres, 4.67 acres will remain open land around the existing lake with the addition of two pocket parks along Reed Street, said the city’s senior planner Rusty Martin.

Moore agreed with the Council’s added stipulation that Traton Homes would conduct a study to see if a traffic light is warranted at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Reed Street.
