Predatory booters will be restricted in Smyrna with regulations passed 7-0 Tuesday by the City Council.

During a Jan. 12 work session, Smyrna Deputy Police Chief Robert Harvey told Mayor Max Bacon and the City Council booting companies have been taking cash only and price gouging in the city.

This new ordinance requires booting companies to secure a city business license and follow about a dozen rules.

Warning signs must be posted at parking lots where booting will be enforced, stating the maximum fee and the phone number of the booting company.

This maximum fee must be the same as the state requirement for towing - no more than $50.

Also, no vehicle may be booted and towed at the same time.

These companies must accept all methods of payment and provide a receipt with the booting company’s name, address, phone number, employee’s name and signature.
