The annual Shop with a Hero event by the Smyrna Fire and Police Departments will be Dec. 13.

That’s when children in need from each local elementary school will be given the gift of holiday shopping.

Goals are to provide the children with a positive role model, have them shop with a person in uniform and make the holidays brighter for them and their families.

These children are chosen by the school counselors based on economic needs.

Each child will be given $200 in spending money from the donations given throughout the year by Smyrna residents and local businesses and from money raised by the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation.

Donations are welcome through the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation Facebook page at facebook.com/smyrnapsf.
