The Smyrna City Council voted 6-1 Aug. 3 to spend $710,000 for a new 75-foot aerial ladder fire truck.

Councilman Wade Lnenicka was opposed.

This truck will replace the present truck which cannot be repaired.

The city is buying the truck from Pierce Manufacturing Inc. through Ten 8 Fire and Safety Equipment of Georgia.

Councilman Ron Fennel explained this truck will be bought as part of a governmental bulk purchase with St. Johns County, Florida, a common money-saving practice.

The money will come the special purpose local option sales tax 2016.
