The Smyrna Bike Share program is now open with three stations and free riding for the first four hours.

Open 24/7 for ages 18 and older, the stations are at the Smyrna Library, 100 Village Green Circle; Taylor-Brawner Park, 3188 Atlanta Road and Spring Road at Park Road.

Pricing is free for under four hours, then $5 per hour and up to $40 per ride.

The Smyrna City Council voted 7-0 in June to pay $32,960 to Zagster of Cambridge, Massachusetts, for a bike-sharing program that was scheduled to begin by mid-July.

Sixteen seven-gear Fuji Breezer Uptown 26-inch bicycles will be supplied with the fourth station to be determined soon by Zagster.

Zagster will own and maintain the bicycles, provide a website at Zagster.com/Smyrnaga and replace the bicycles every three years at a minimum.

Also, Zagster will provide ongoing maintenance with trained mechanics and free replacement parts and will rebalance the fleet weekly, needing no city workers.

To prevent theft, the bicycles will have Kryptonite-locking hardware and integrated lock holster.

Geofence will surround each docking station and send back information on the number of bikes at each station.

Information: Zagster.com/Smyrnaga.
