Officers investigating a smash-and-grab burglary at a southwest Atlanta convenience store early Sunday found items inside a vehicle wrecked by the suspects that were believed to have been stolen in a second, similar incident.

According to Atlanta police, several suspects crashed a Jeep through the front of the Metro Foods store in the 1400 block of Metropolitan Parkway around 6 a.m. Sunday, stealing cigarettes and the cash register.

Responding officers observed a second vehicle involved in the break-in, a Dodge Dakota, crash into a fence at Dill and Erin avenues, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the AJC.

“The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled on foot, evading officers,” Jones said.

She said the green Jeep Cherokee believed to have been involved in the burglary remains at large.

Inside the wrecked Dodge were two flat screen TVs believed to have been taken during an earlier smash-and-grab burglary at a business at Cascade and Fairburn roads in south Fulton County, Jones said.
