Six Fayette County students are among the 16,000 young people selected nationwide as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.

The students are Jan Matthew S. Morano of Fayette County High School, Kyle A. Robinson (Starr’s Mill High), Edward C. Huang (Whitewater High), Jennifer H. Deng (McIntosh High), Caitlin P. van Zyl (McIntosh High) and Caroline S. Zhang (McIntosh High).

The six are among the highest scorers in the state on the 2018 Preliminary SAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants, the south metro Atlanta district says.  Their scores put them in the top one percent of highest scoring U.S. high school seniors.

To reach finalist status, semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by a principal and have SAT scores that meet qualifying test performance.
