A 20-foot deep sinkhole has opened up in Cobb County, swallowing trees and putting a nearby business on edge.

The hole was reported near North Fairground Street in Marietta.

Though the sinkhole is on private property, Marietta city workers will make the repairs.

City workers tell Channel 2 Action News a loose connection between two pipes rusted and caused water to rush out, and made the 40 by 20 foot sinkhole.

City officials need the problem fixed as soon as possible since the hole is so close to the street and surrounding businesses.

More rain is in the forecast Monday, which will make the project more difficult.

Crews will work throughout the day to make the repairs.
