An Atlanta Police Department event will reconstruct a major car accident on I-75 early Friday morning.

APD’s accident investigation unit, which investigates fatal and hit-and-run traffic accidents, and Georgia Department of Transportation’s HERO (Highway Emergency Response Operator) program will close the highway.

Three middle lanes will be blocked at the I-75 and I-85 northbound merger to recreate a fatal traffic collision.

The exercise will take place Friday at 3 a.m. It is expected to last less than an hour.

Police are asking drivers to make alternate plans if they have to travel this route.

Separately, a simulation will take place in the city the following day. MARTA will perform the region's largest emergency preparedness exercise from 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday at the Midtown station.
