While wrapping up its massive renovation of Suburban Plaza, Selig Enterprises prepares to develop property it owns in downtown Decatur, at the corner of Commerce Drive and Church Street.

Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne said she anticipates some type of mixed-use development, including ground-floor retail, and may receive plans by late summer.

The 5.25 acres currently includes a parking lot fronting Commerce with two buildings immediately south of the lot including a DeKalb County probation office. The Selig property is across Church, or east of the three Bank of America parking lots owned by Pope & Land Enterprises and also slated for a mixed-used project, though no timetable has been given.

Meantime phase one of the Avondale MARTA station development on East College Avenue has been delayed. The joint project between Columbia Ventures, MARTA and Decatur will cover 7.7 acres and the initial phase will include 288 market-rate apartments, 22,000 square feet of commercial space and 92 units of senior affordable housing.

But Columbia Managing Partner Dillon Baynes said Tuesday that construction, initially scheduled to start this month, will move back to the “end of summer.”
