Demolition of the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church and nine homes on Barton Way should begin “any day now,” according to Jeff Fuqua, principal with Fuqua Development.
Shortly after demolition the company will begin site work and construction on a mixed use project at North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard with phase one including 250 apartments, 60 town homes facing Barton and 2,000 square feet of retail, possibly a coffee shop.
Construction will take 16 months and should finish by early summer 2016, Fuqua said. The company has also scheduled a meeting detailing phase two — to include a natural foods grocery and single-family homes on Blackmon Drive — 7 p.m. March 2 at North Decatur United Methodist Church, 1523 Church Street.
The Scott Boulevard/North Decatur area is on Decatur’s annexation map.
