A new superintendent of schools in Henry County could be named as early as Oct. 23. The Board of Education voted Oct. 9 to name two finalists for the position: Mary Elizabeth Davis, chief academic officer for the Cobb County School District and Douglas Hendrix, assistant superintendent for school improvement at Clayton County Public Schools.

One of them is expected to succeed Rodney Bowler, who is retiring at the end of this month. The two finalists appeared at two public forums during the past week to meet with and field questions from local citizens. By law the school board can make its final choice 14 days after the announcement of the finalists.
