Scattered storms could hamper weekend road construction

Today's Forecast

Scattered thunderstorms forecast throughout the weekend could hamper road work scheduled on various metro interstates, forecasters said.

Areas slated for road work this weekend include I-85 southbound near Cheshire Bridge Road and I-85 northbound from north of 17th Street to North Druid Hills Road.

In that same area, work is planned on the Buford-Spring Connector northbound near Piedmont Road.

South of downtown, barrier work is scheduled on the ramp from the Downtown Connector northbound to Ga. 166 westbound.

On Sunday, Ga. 400 southbound will be blocked from Holcomb Bridge Road to Northridge Road between 7 and 7:30 a.m. for the Ga. 400 Hospitality Highway Bike Ride.

Heavy traffic can be expected leading to and from Turner Field, where the Braves play the Diamondbacks at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 4:05 pm. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday.

Those baseball games, as well as the planned road construction, are weather-permitting, and Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz is forecasting a 60 percent chance of late-day storms Friday, followed by a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.

There’s a slight chance that some of Friday’s storms could become severe.

Highs will be in the low 90s Friday, and mid- to upper 80s Saturday and Sunday, with lows in the upper 60s.
