The Sandy Springs City Council has approved agreements with Gwinnett County concerning rights of way and a sidewalk for joint construction projects involving Spalding Drive.

The council approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett in which it takes responsibility for procuring easements and rights of way within Sandy Springs for planned improvements to the intersection of Spalding and Holcomb Bridge Road (Ga. 140). The city has budgeted $450,000 for the task, according to a staff report.

The Sandy Springs council also approved a revised intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett to increase the width of a sidewalk on the north side of Spalding from six to 10 feet. Spalding is being widened from two to four lanes between Winters Chapel and Holcomb Bridge roads.

The city’s construction share for the project is now estimated to be about $1.3 million, an increase of $271,211, staff said. “The city will also agree to acquire any right of way needed within the city limits for the project, currently estimated at $368,000,” staff said.
