A philanthropic organization in Sandy Springs has donated nearly $258,000 to 30 nonprofits this year.

Sandy Springs Society, an organization of more than 300 women, has raised the money through its annual spring and winter marketplace fundraisers. Local charities and nonprofits apply for grants through the society.

Recipients this year include nonprofits that support people in financial need, education and arts and culture.

Sandy Springs Society has donated more than $4.3 million since 1988, members said.

We were particularly thrilled to be able to fund the social service organizations that are helping so many Sandy Springs residents impacted by the coronavirus pandemic,” President Susan Sutterfield said in a statement.

Most of the award winners are located in Sandy Springs. This year, Horizons Atlanta at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School received $20,316 for its online summer education program and food gift certificates. Another recipient, the Community Assistance Center, received $47,000 for its Emergency Relief Fund that provides financial support and food to the needy.
