The City of Sandy Springs has been awarded two significant public safety grants.

Officials were notified of a $14, 307 Byrne JAG grant for the purchase of seven compact speed-detection devices. It’s the fifth direct award to the city from the program, which is designed to support all facets of the law enforcement and courts system.

The city also was awarded $9,389 through the Bulletproof Vest partnership with the U.S Department of Justice. The grant will allow the police department to buy about 20 new and replacement vests. Sandy Springs has gotten more than $92,000 in funding from the program since 2006.
