The Sandy Springs City Council plans a special session following Tuesday’s meeting focused on proposed changes to the city’s tree ordinance.

City staff presented several proposed changes during the council’s Feb. 17 work session. Among them; requiring a larger minimum size for tree plantings, setting up a stricter standard for which trees can be counted toward tree canopy requirements (sometimes resulting in more tree plantings to replace lost canopy) and setting a higher bar for protection of so-called boundary trees on adjacent properties.

City staff wil explain the updated changes, then ask the public for feedback. The regular council meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500.
