Sandy Springs and its nonprofit arts affiliate have put out a call for entries for “ArtSS in the Open,” a 2019 public outdoor sculpture competition at the City Springs downtown redevelopment.

The city, in partnership with Art Sandy Springs, invites local, regional and national artists to make submissions for possible inclusion in an outdoor exhibit surrounding the City Green at Sandy Springs. The theme is “Inspired. By Nature.”

Nine sculptures will selected for display in the first annual exhibit, and the city plans to purchase one or more of them for its permanent public art collection. Each selected artist will receive a $1,500 honorarium. Application deadline is Jan. 7. The sculptures will be installed in April. A grand opening with a gala artists’ reception is to take place April 27.

“It is exciting to bring the additional element of visual art to the stage with this rotating exhibition, also adding to a civic art collection throughout our city,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.
