Sandy Springs says it will seek new bids this winter for field service contracts.

A recent city presentation cited seven contracts for re-bids for $4.8 million: street, park and right-of-way maintenance; street cleaning; traffic signal maintenance; and emergency services related to public works. An eighth contract, for pond vegetation maintenance, with an estimated value of $100,000, will be new.

“Utilizing the competitive process to ensure the best price and service is an integral part of the success of the public-private model the city employs,” said Sandy Springs City Manager John McDonough. While the city is happy with its present service providers, McDonough said “the time is appropriate” to seek competitive bids.

A pre-proposal conference is expected in December, with a request for proposals issued later that month or in January, proposals due in February, and contracts awarded in April.

The City Council in June gave its general city service contractors – including those responsible for public works, finance, and recreation and parks – three-year extensions to ensure continuity while the city rewrites its comprehensive land use plan and zoning code, and executes its City Springs downtown redevelopment.
