Sandy Springs has taken another step forward toward completion of the City Center project aimed at creating a cohesive downtown.
The Sandy Springs City Council Tuesday night picked the Raymond James Public Finance Group as the underwriter that will advise the city as it prepares to issue revenue bonds to finance the public portion of the project. Subject to final approval of a contract, the firm will help the city on the structure of the bond issue, among other components. The public portion includes a civic building, performing arts center and green space.
City spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said no date or amount has been set for the bond issue, but that it cannot exceed the roughly $200 million budgeted for the public piece.
Site-clearing and utility relocation is already underway at the site near Roswell Road and Mount Vernon Highway. City officials plan for public-sector completion by the end of 2017.
