Seeking to train at least 1,200 individuals a year in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the Sandy Springs Fire Department will offer a series of free CPR training courses this spring.

Department personnel will teach the classes using the American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR course, city officials said. Classes are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon March 23, April 20 and May 18 at Sandy Springs City Hall, 1 Galambros Way, with the same course matter taught at each session.

To register: email ccampbell@sandyspringsga.gov or rmcclendon@sandyspringsga.gov.

Classes are “for individuals who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for a job,” according to a city announcement. “The program is well-suited for new parents, babysitters, and those interested in learning how to save a life.”

Participants will learn adult hands-only CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator), child CPR and AED, and infant CPR. Information: https://bit.ly/2UeiIFa

“The first few minutes following a cardiac arrest is a critical time,” said Sandy Springs Fire Chief Keith Sanders. “Each chest compression using hands-only CPR provides the ongoing blood flow needed to give the patient a better chance of survival once first responders are able to arrive at the scene.”
