Sandy Springs has announced the hiring of Doug Edwards, former director of public works for DeKalb County, as assistant city manager for infrastructure.
Edwards has 20 years of experience in public works, transportation engineering and operational management, officials said. He also is a retired colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, where he served for 30 years.
Edwards was DeKalb public works director from 2012 to 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has been regional client service leader at MWH Global (now part of Stantec), a water and natural resources consulting firm, and worked for consulting engineers HDR Engineering, ARCADIS and Brown and Caldwell, among other positions.
Edwards received a bachelor’s degree in physical science/general engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s of business administration degree from the Mercer Stetson School of Business and Economics.
“A focus on infrastructure remains a top priority for the city, and Doug’s leadership experience, along with his strength in collaboration, especially among cross-functional teams, will aid in our ability to ensure top results delivering on our capital improvement, T-SPLOST, stormwater and transportation programs,” said Sandy Springs City Manager John McDonough.
