The city of Sandy Springs has announced that police captain Keith Zgonc has been promoted to the rank of deputy chief.

The move makes Zgonc second-in-command to police chief Ken DeSimone and gives him authority over the operational and administrative functions of the department.

Zgonc has been with the department since the city’s creation in 2006, and began his law enforcement career with the city of Smyrna in 1991. Sandy Springs officials said he helped to develop the city’s community policing program.
