The Sandy Springs City Council has renewed its agreement with the Art Sandy Springs (ARTSS) nonprofit to conduct an annual competition of outdoor art sculptures, with up to 10 entries to be exhibited at City Springs during the contest period.

A total of $50,000 has been allocated for the competition, and ARTSS has been working with the city to develop an overall budget and technical requirements to issue a call for entries this fall, staff said in a report to the council. At least one of the entries will be purchased for the city.

Under the new agreement, “the general responsibilities remain the same … (but) the artist agreement was revised based on input from the artist community and best practices learned from other municipalities with similar programming,” staff said.

The general theme of the competition will be “Inspired, By Nature,” according to ARTSS’ proposal for the 2019 event. Each selected artist will receive a $1,500 honoraria. Submissions will be due by Jan. 3, with sculptures installed in April.
