Sandy Springs residents have an opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at firefighting and disaster preparedness training in the spring 2020 session of the Citizens Fire Academy.
The eight-week program meets March 26-May 14, with most sessions at Sandy Springs fire stations.
Topics to be covered include emergency communications, fire behavior, hose handling, search and rescue, breathing apparatus, basic first aid, extrication, and a live fire exercise. Participants also will receive CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training for disasters.
“The classes include a shift where participants experience life at the fire station, including a ride-along with fire units to whatever calls occur during that shift,” according to a city announcement. Graduates can continue training for an additional eight weeks to become members of the volunteer Fire Corps.
The academy is free and open to those at least 18 years old who pass a background check and live or work in Sandy Springs. Information, and to apply: https://bit.ly/38JAGGv
