Demolition was to begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday and go for two weeks of the old Mount Vernon Highway bridge over Ga. 400 in Sandy Springs, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.

While the work is under way, lane closures will be necessary for northbound Ga. 400 from Hammond Drive to Mount Vernon; southbound Ga. 400 from Abernathy Road to Mount Vernon; the entrance ramp from Abernathy to southbound Ga. 400; and the exit ramp from northbound Ga. 400 to eastbound Abernathy. No lane closures or detours will take place on Mount Vernon.

“The newly reconstructed Mount Vernon Highway over Ga. 400 from Barfield Road to Crestline Parkway opened the weekend of March 28,” GDOT said. “Motorists are advised if they must be out to pay attention to the new roadway configuration and be alert for anticipated closures due to demolition activity for the old Mount Vernon Highway bridge.”

The project is part of Ga. 400/I-285 interchange reconstruction in the Perimeter area of North Fulton and DeKalb counties. Information: https://bit.ly/2Vb5o5W
