The Sandy Springs City Council has approved spending $400,000 to acquire another single-family home that will eventually be razed for the future widening of Hammond Drive.

City staff has negotiated the purchase of a house at 623 Lorell Terrace NE, according to a staff report to the council. The property is a home constructed in 1961 on a 0.4-acre lot on Lorell, just north of Hammond. Suzanne Hammond Wilson is the seller, according to the sales agreement.

Sandy Springs has been assembling land for the Hammond project and has acquired about a dozen parcels so far. Plans call for widening the street from two lanes to four and adding sidewalks and a bicycle lane.
