Roswell has updated its electrical vehicle infrastructure by installing new public EV charging stations to replace five-year-old units.

Roswell was among the first cities in Georgia to offer EV charging stations, supported by Charge Georgia, an incentive program of the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, according to a city announcement.

“The new charging stations replace the original 2015 stations, which were outdated and no longer being supported by their manufacturer,” the city said. “The new stations are installed and maintained by ChargePoint, which touts the world’s largest EV charging network, with more than 45,000 charging spots nationwide.”

Two EV stations with four connectors are at City Hall, 38 Hill St.; and single stations with two connectors each, at Roswell Area Park, 10495 Woodstock Road, and East Roswell Park, 9000 Fouts Road. Real-time station availability can be viewed at the ChargePoint website, www.chargepoint.com/drivers, and its app, downloadable from the website.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
