The city of Roswell is seeking cooks to compete in “Southern Soul Fixins,” described as a “soul food cook-off event” for Roswell Roots: A Festival of Black History and Culture.

Deadline to apply is Monday, Jan. 14. The cook-off starts at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Bill Johnson Community Activity Building at Roswell Area Park, 10495 Woodstock Road. Food categories are meat-based side dish; vegetarian side dish; breads/corn meal; and dessert. Competitors can enter as professionals or amateurs. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges. A “People’s Choice” award in each category will be given based on the most votes from guests.
