Roswell aims to become one of 10 cities awarded an “Asphalt Art Initiative Grant” of up to $25,000.

The grant, according to a resolution approved by the City Council, is “to fund visual art interventions on roadways, pedestrian spaces and/or public infrastructure with the goal of improving street and pedestrian safety; revitalizing and beautifying underutilized public spaces; and promoting collaboration and civic engagement.”

The resolution directs staff to apply for the Bloomberg Philanthropies grant. Up to $25,000 will be awarded to each of 10 small- to medium-sized cities to design and implement a project during the 2020 calendar year, staff said.

While a local match is not required, Roswell and its partner in public art, the Roswell Arts Fund, intend to provide in-kind matching funds of more than $25,000. If Roswell wins a grant, its Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department would work with the Arts Fund to oversee its implementation.
