Roswell’s latest plan to relieve congestion in the Holcomb Bridge Road corridor dramatically changes the direction of the Big Creek Parkway project.
A public information open house on the new plan is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 38 Hill St., according to a city announcement.
Estimated to cost $58.5 million and the most expensive TSPLOST project in Roswell, the newly built Big Creek Parkway would have run parallel to and north of Holcomb Bridge to connect the city east and west of Ga. 400.
The Georgia Department of Transportation, however, in early 2019 approached Roswell with proposal to work together to replace the Holcomb Bridge/Ga. 400 interchange, a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the city said.
New plans call for extending the existing Old Holcomb Bridge Road, rather than building a new road, to cross Ga. 400. The new design could handle traffic volumes comparable to the original plans and save $17 million, money that could go toward the Ga. 400 interchange improvements, city officials said.
“(The) mayor and City Council have not made any formal decisions about next steps regarding Big Creek Parkway,” the city said. “They will discuss the project and potential options at a work session scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Roswell City Hall.”
