Roswell city officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony 11 a.m. Friday at the cul-de-sac at the end of Warsaw Road, just past the General Motors Innovation Center to officially kick off construction of the Sun Valley Road extension.
The project will extend Warsaw Road north to the intersection of Sun Valley Road and Alpharetta Highway and will provide a new route from Mansell Road to Alpharetta Highway, with the aim of helping relieve traffic congestion at the Mansell/Alpharetta Highway junction. Several intersections will get upgrades as well. Officials said the extended road will also support local economic development.
In addition to 11-foot-wide travel lanes, the project includes bike lanes, a sidewalk and a multimodal use path and is set to finish by late 2017.
