The Roswell City Council is hitting the “pause” button on one of the biggest road projects to be funded by the special Fulton County transportation sales tax – the Big Creek Parkway, a $58.5 million effort to relieve traffic congestion in the Holcomb Bridge Road corridor.
Citing new initiatives including managed lanes on Ga. 400 and MARTA Bus Rapid Transit, the council unanimously passed a resolution pausing the Big Creek project and seeking immediate meetings with the Georgia Department of Transportation, MARTA, and county and state officials.
The aim of the meetings, the resolution says, is “to discuss with the public a holistic picture of the future of the road network in the vicinity of the Holcomb Bridge Road/Ga. 400 interchange. … Further public input and meetings with various agencies and officials (are) essential in determining a path forward as expediently as possible.”
Big Creek Parkway is to be funded by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by Fulton voters outside Atlanta in November 2016.
The new roadway would start at Warsaw Road just north of Holcomb Bridge, extend east across Ga. 400, connect with Holcomb Woods Parkway at Old Alabama Road, and end back at Holcomb Bridge. A sidewalk and bike path also are planned.
