The Roswell City Council denied a proposal Monday that would have permitted local businesses to use "human signs."

By a vote of 4-2, council members rejected a measure that would allow businesses to advertise with people who are wearing costumes or holding a sign outside of their establishments.

The proposal would have amended Roswell's current sign ordinance. Businesses would have been limited to using human signs for 10 consecutive days and only 40 days in a 12-month period. The signs also would not have been allowed in the public right-of-way, including sidewalks.
