The Roswell City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Cobb County to replace the Willeo Road bridge over Willeo Creek on the boundary of the city and county.

“Both Roswell and Cobb recognize the need to replace the Willeo Bridge and together have agreed to undertake a joint project to accomplish this,” staff said in a report to the council.

Roswell and Cobb individually will be responsible for the costs of right-of-way acquisitions within their jurisdictions, and will split 50-50 engineering, permitting, utility location and construction costs, according to the agreement. Total estimated costs are $430,000 for the design and $2.3 million for the construction of the replacement bridge.

Also, Roswell will be fully responsible for the design and construction costs of a short section of boardwalk that may be required to connect the new bridge to the Riverwalk Trail. The trail currently ends at a parking lot on Willeo inside Roswell.
