The Roswell City Council has approved a resolution petitioning the U. S. Postal Service to allow Roswell residents who now must use a Milton or Alpharetta zip code to list Roswell’s name as an alternate in mailing addresses.

The resolution asks that residents in the 30009 and 30022 zip areas be allowed to use Roswell instead of the currently mandated Alpharetta, and that residents and businesses in 30004 be allowed to use Roswell as an alternative to Milton. It says the change would help city government promote Roswell-based business.

The postal service’s procedure for multi-address requests requires that local governments covering the affected zip codes make the request. There’s no word on when postal officials might make a decision.

The resolution also requests help from U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Roswell, in allowing the changes.
