The Roswell City Council has accepted a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts for a five-day residency by a schools sculpture artist to create and install two mobile projects.

The artist, Kevin Reese, will conduct a five-day project with up to 250 participants to create the sculptures, culminating in a performance at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, according to the agenda packet prepared for Monday’s Council meeting.

The 2016 Arts Engagement in American Communities grant requires a $10,000 match from the city. The Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department will be responsible for the project.

A Schools Sculptures website describes Reese's work as connecting with young people to create a permanent piece of kinetic art. Students draw their ideas, and Reese creates a model. Then, over five days, he works with students to draw out, sand, paint and balance the mobile. On the final day, the mobile is installed and unveiled.
