The highest of three bidders has been awarded the contract to replace the complete roof at the Smyrna Community Center.

Ben Hill Roofing and Siding Co., Inc. of Douglasville was awarded the $1,077,812 contract - to be completed in 120 days - by a 7-0 vote on Aug. 20 of the Smyrna City Council.

Funding will come from the Fiscal Year 2017 General Fund surplus.

Other bidders were S. Garrett and Company for $843,037 to be completed in 190 days and Bone Dry Roofing Company for $967,470 to be finished in 120 days.

However, Ben Hill Roofing and Siding was determined to be “the most responsive and responsible bidder.”

This company was “the only supplier that submitted required documentation and met all criteria within the proposal documents,” according to an Aug. 14 memo from the city’s Purchasing Manager Kelly Brown to the city’s Interim Public Works Director Frank Martin and Finance Director Kristin Robinson.
