Norcross-based RockTenn has completed its merger with MeadWestvaco to officially become WestRock.

WestRock, a supplier of consumer and corrugated packaging solutions, now has 42,000 employees, 275 manufacturing facilities, numerous corporate centers, research labs and sales offices operating in 30 countries spanning North America, South America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

RockTenn was formed in a merger between Rock City Packaging and Tennessee Paper in 1973. MeadWestvaco was formed in a merger between Mead Corporation and Westvaco in 2002. In 2011, RockTenn announced the consolidation of its Chicago and metro St. Louis operations to Gwinnett, bringing 500 new jobs to the community and representing $5 million in capital investment. Earlier this year, RockTenn and MeadWestvaco announced its merger.

“WestRock’s 1,100 local employees and CEO Steve Voorhees, will continue to be a valuable part of the Gwinnett community from the company’s operational headquarters in Gwinnett,” said Nick Masino, senior vice president of Economic Development and Partnership Gwinnett.
