Rev. Joseph Lowery in hospital for dehydration

Jan 17, 2015

Atlanta civil rights icon Rev. Joseph Lowery is in the hospital.

His daughter Cheryl Lowery, executive director of the Joseph & Evelyn Lowery Institute, confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday night that her 93-year-old father is resting comfortably while being treated for dehydration.

“We are grateful for the love and prayers that sustain us all,” Cheryl Lowery said. “We are also grateful for the privacy we so need at this time. He is progressing.”

Lowery broke his hip in a fall in a California hotel room last month. He was in Santa Barbara for Oprah Winfrey's "Celebrating SELMA and the Legends Who Paved the Way" gala.
