At Amma Kitchen in Alpharetta, multiple health violations are occurring because there is no certified food safety manager on staff to train employees, an inspector said.
During a recent routine inspection, employees were coming out of the restroom and engaging in food preparation or handling clean equipment without first washing their hands. Some were washing their hands without soap.
The food prep staff had no hair restraints or gloves. Then, when putting on their gloves no one washed their hands first. One worker was seen handling ready-to-eat foods with bare hands.
Employee drinks in open containers were on the food prep table. And an area for employees to eat and drink was too close to the area where customer foods were prepared, according to the report.
Amma Kitchen, 390 Cumming St., Alpharetta, scored 61/U. The restaurant had previous health scores of 81/B and 92/A.
The inspector said the facility also needed to be treated for a pest infestation. Insects were seen throughout the kitchen, especially around equipment, food containers and on the can opener blade, which was caked with metal shavings. The food prep area was open to the outside with no screening or air curtain.
Points were also taken off because multiple foods were uncovered, there was no consistent date marking procedure, food containers were not properly labeled, and some containers were stored directly on the floor.
Amma Kitchen will be re-inspected.
