Some of the food at Friend’s House in Buford was not in good condition leading to a failing routine health score.
After finding a bowl used to portion raw beef stored directly on top of carrots inside a cooler, the Gwinnett County health inspector said the food wasn’t safe to eat. The carrots were thrown away.
The inspector also found raw chicken thawing in the dish sink next to a stack of dirty dishes. Because of the contamination risk, the chicken was discarded.
In addition, previously cooked foods were being kept around too long. Foods cooked on-site and then stored in the freezer were not labeled with discard dates. When questioned about the missing labels, the employees said the items would be labeled on the day they are taken out of the freezer.
Cooked foods must be labeled on the day of preparation and can only be kept for seven days, the inspector said.
Friend’s House, 3300 Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, scored 54/U on the routine inspection. The restaurant had previous scores of 87/B and 96/A.
The inspector also noted that employees were still not labeling seasonings used on the cook-line with their common English name. It was the third violation of this code and the food permit was suspended long enough for staff training on this particular code.
Friend’s House will be re-inspected.
