Walter’s Express Soul Food Cafe on Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta failed a recent health inspection because the facility had roaches and management was lax in controlling food safety standards.
A Fulton County health inspector observed roach activity in the restaurant’s dry storage area. Outer openings of the facility were not properly sealed and the carpet in that area was worn and soiled, according to the inspection report.
A legal notice was issued to have management retrained on food safety control measures, which the inspector said were not satisfactory.
Walter’s Express Soul Food Café, 394 Cleveland Ave., Atlanta, scored 57/U on the routine inspection. Previous scores were 92/A and 91/A.
In other code violations, raw meats were not properly separated from ready-to-eat foods in storage. There was no consistent date-marking on foods stored in coolers.
Points were also taken off because a pan of dressing in the main kitchen was uncovered and subject to contamination.
One of the employee hand sinks had a leak, with water dripping into a bucket. Grease had accumulated on walls and ceiling.
Walter’s Express Soul Food Café will be re-inspected.
