At El Patio, a Dominican restaurant in Norcross, dirty equipment was stored in all the wrong sinks, employees were putting on food service gloves without first washing their hands and potentially hazardous foods were improperly stored.
The Gwinnett County health inspector said the person in charge failed to prevent critical violations within the restaurant, and should ensure employees are following the food code.
Dirty food equipment was in the kitchen hand sink, blocking accessibility for employees to wash their hands, according to the inspection report. Equipment and utensils were also stored in the fruit and vegetable sink.
Points were also taken off because an employee using a wet-wiping cloth switch tasks to handle ready-to-eat food without changing gloves and washing hands. Another employee put on gloves to handle ready-to-eat foods but didn’t wash hands first.
El Patio, 193 N. Norcross Tucker Road, Norcross, failed the routine inspection with 56/U, falling from previous scores of 90/A and 98/A.
In other code violations, raw beef was stored above cooked food, and raw eggs were above vegetables in a cooler. Chemical bottles were not labeled to identify the contents inside. The inside of the microwave was dirty with encrusted food debris. And an employee drink was in the food prep area.
El Patio will be re-inspected.
