A restaurant group is partnering with the city of Norcross to give out 500 free meals to anyone in need three times a week for the next three weeks.

Walia Hospitality Group, which runs restaurants including Masti and Cafe Bombay, is distributing the meals at Global Mall every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The first day is Wednesday, April 15 and the last scheduled day is May 3. The meals will be given to anyone who needs them; no specific residency, employment status or other qualification is required.

The meals can be picked up via a drive-through system set up in the mall parking lot. Pickups will involve minimal contact in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The meal distribution is being done in partnership with the city of Norcross and Mayor Craig Newton. Newton worked with Global Mall management to set up the meal pickup system.

“Many families are facing difficult financial decisions during this trying time,” Newton said. “With this new effort, we will be able to feed hundreds of food-challenged citizens in Norcross and the surrounding area.”

Global Mall is located at 5675 Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross.

Police said she turned herself in to he Fulton County Jail on Tuesday.
