Lewis Grizzard, the quintessential Southern humorist, married four times.

Lewis Grizzard, the quintessential Southern humorist and a columnist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is shown in this 1979 photo. No, he didn't run for mayor.

Grizzard married four times before his death at age 47 after heart surgery. Grizzard is photographed playing tennis during his healthier days in the 1980s.

Grizzard published several humor books, including this one: "Chili Dawgs Always Bark at Night."

Grizzard's writings drew a big following. There's a museum in Moreland devoted to the author.

His lifelong friend, Dudley Stamps, poses outside the Lewis Grizzard Museum in Moreland. Stamps has helped the museum get off the ground.

Grizzard and his last wife, Dedra, had been together four years when they were married in a hospital ceremony in 1994. Grizzard died four days later. In this undated photo, Dedra Grizzard and her daughter, Jordan, get hot dogs during the Grizzard Storytelling Barbecue and Southern Celebration.
