Authorities on Monday released the name of the woman who drowned Saturday in Lake Lanier after the tube she was on flipped and she went under the water.

Becky Wallace, 55, of Suwanee, died in the accident that happened at 2:15 p.m. in the Shoal Creek area of Lake Lanier, according to a spokesman for the state Department of Natural Resources.

The tube was being pulled by a pontoon boat operated by her husband, Ronald D. Wallace, according to the incident report. Three children were on the tube with Becky Wallace. The three children were wearing life vests, but she was not, according to DNR spokesman Rick Lavender.

She went to assist the three children after the tube flipped but went under in the process, Lavender said.

Information on the relationship between Becky Wallace and the three children was not immediately available.

Lavender said there is no indication that alcohol was involved in the accident.

DNR’s Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
