A violent video by a rising Atlanta rap star has some East Point residents crying foul because it was filmed in an East Point municipal building, reported Channel 2 Action News.
The “Big Racks” music video by rap artist Young Thug, stage name for Jeffrey Lamar Williams, shows gangsters invading a bank and shooting several hostages during a robbery.
However, the video was actually filmed in East Point’s Customer Care Department, with identifying signs visible in some scenes, according to a Channel 2 report.
The video has provoked complaints from some residents and a city spokesperson about the setting or the message viewers might get, according to Channel 2.
“It’s ridiculous, like they’re promoting violence,” East Point resident William Perkins told Channel 2.
In a statement, a city spokesperson worried the city building’s signs are identifiable in the video, apparently violating the city’s filming approval, which barred the film production company from including the city’s logo or name in the video without written permission.
“We are very disappointed that the regulations were violated by the production/film company, and we will be addressing our concerns with them,” the city said in a statement.
A response was not immediately available from Williams’ record label.
