The popular Smyrna Spring Jonquil Festival will bring two days of family fun — and competing swine — to the heart of the city.
The 32nd annual festival will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25 and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at The Village Green in Smyrna.
Attendees can expect to peruse more than 175 artists specializing in handmade crafts, clothing, furniture, jewelry and paintings.
New this year will be an appearance by the Rosaire’s Royal Racers, a traveling pig racing company. The audience will “squeal in delight as these speedy swine fly around the 180-foot aluminum track in about seven seconds,” according to the festival’s press releases.
According to the Racers' website, the business launched in 1991 by Wayne Rosaire, a seventh-generation circus performer. The company performs for audiences around the country and features three breeds of pigs. Cheerleaders from the audience will be chosen to represent each pig. The human who had the winning pig will be showered with prizes.
Returning this year will be K-9 demonstrations, robocars, Peter Hart’s puppet show and and music by Scott Thompson of Peachtree Station.
About 20 food vendors will be on hand selling festive eats like cotton candy, corn dogs, ice cream, snow cones, BBQ and chicken sandwiches. A children’s area will include inflatables, sand art and other activities.
Runners and walkers will have a chance to improve their personal records with the Jonquil Jog, which starts at 8 a.m. April 25. You can learn more about or register for this 5K Run/Walk by clicking here.
Admission to this year's festival is free. The deadline to submit an application to become a vendor is March 15. You can download applications here.
