Qualifying for Lake City general elections begins Aug. 31

Lake City has announced that, as the mayor’s seat and two council seats are open for election, qualifying for the general elections taking place Nov. 3 begins 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31 and will end on Friday, Sept. 4. Qualifying applications can be picked up and turned in at the Lake City City Hall, 5455 Jonesboro Road. The qualifying fees are $360 for mayor and $252 for council.

The current mayor, Willie Oswalt, has held the office since 1976. In Lake City, council members hold at large or citywide representative seats. The seats of councilmen Dwight Ginn and Bobby Williams are up for this year’s election, though both have held their seats for 13 and 38 years, respectively. The newest council member, Lorraine Hoover, was elected this spring in a special election.
